Opening Day

I love baseball season. There’s really no other sport like it - 162 games a season, a game nearly every day from April to September.

It’s absolutely better if you can attend in person (like pretty much every sport, except the NFL) - just roll up, find a ticket either at the window or from someone outside, grab some peanuts, and settle in for an afternoon. But for me it loses very little on TV, or even the radio. There’s something almost meditative about the rhythms of the game: the routine of pitches, hits, and outs; the background hum of crowd noise broken by the occasional crack of the bat; the commentary, which ranges from game events to baseball trivia to who knows what.

And while any day with baseball is a good day, Opening Day is the very best baseball day of the year. There are 162 games in front of you, and anything is possible.

Go Cards!
